Mastering Ohio’s Grade 5 Science Achievement Test provides clear, insightful explanations and an interactive format to help students perform their very best on the OAT.
An introductory unit provides test-taking strategies, including the unique “E-R-A” approach, in which students learn to examine the question, recall what they know, and apply what they know. Students learn to recognize basic OAT question types, such as recalling facts, demonstrating investigative processes, and making “real world” applications. They also learn how to answer short-answer and extended-response questions by understanding test terminology, interpreting data, and planning their answers.
The book provides a complete review of all 22 benchmarks and 99 grade-level level indicators on the test, from Grades 3, 4, and 5. Content lessons are organized by standard, with one unit on scientific ways of knowing, scientific inquiry, and science and technology.
Later units explore the life sciences, physical sciences and Earth and space sciences. Every lesson begins with a list of Major Ideas, followed by a highly illustrated content review. “Applying What You Have Learned” activities, Study Cards, and a “What You Should Know” summary further reinforce student mastery of key concepts. Every unit ends with a Concept Map, practice test questions and a “Checklist of Benchmarks.”
